Central Park Zoo

Open 365 days a year, the Central Park New York Zoo is located at 64th Street and Fifth Avenue on Upper East Side Manhattan.  Officially known as The Wildlife Conservation Center, this NY zoo is the perfect NYC attraction for all ages!  Check out the polar bear pool or pay a visit to the snow leopard exhibit, one of the rarest animals in the entire world.  Also, enjoy the poetry tour with Whitman and Shakespeare dialogue narrarating different viewing points all over the park.  Don't forget to feed the sea lions and penguins or to explore the rainforest exhibit with frogs, snakes, and other slippery and slimy amphibians.  Be sure to also visit Tisch Children's Zoo that allows your little ones to encounter gentle animals and get up-close and personal!  First opening as a menagerie in 1864, the Central Park NYC Zoo was completely renovated in August of 1988.  Admission is $7 and up.

Queens Zoo

Located in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, the Queens New York Zoo is the only zoo in NYC that exhibits spectacled bears!  Completely renovated in 1992, the zoo in Queens features bald eagles, alligators, cougars, coyotes, Roosevelt elk, and many more.  Check out the woodland trail with pumas, owls, elk, and a Canadian lynx or try the notorious petting zoo that allows guests to pet and play with all of their new furry friends!  At the Queens Zoo in NY there is also a wildlife theater equipped with props, games and songs to put on interactive shows that explain to zoo guests the advantages of conservation, wildlife rescue, and protection.  Offering cheaper admission because this NY zoo isn't located in Manhattan, children under three years are also free at the Queens NY Zoo.  Admission is only $8 with lower rates for seniors and children.

Bronx Zoo

Located in Bronx Park, the Bronx New York Zoo is the largest metropolitan zoo in the United States.  First opening in 1899, the Bronx Zoo NY is home to over 4000 animals and 650 different species!  Formerly named The New York Zoological Park, the Bronx NY Zoo allows free admission on Wednesdays, however donations are gladly accepted and appreciated.  Although beware, Wednesdays are the busiest days of the week for the Bronx NYC Zoo.  Don't miss the African plains and explore the lions, zebras, gazelles, and more!  Also check out the wild Asia monorail that travels through 40 acres observing elephants, wild horses, and tigers surviving in their natural habitats.  Tiger mountain is also a popular exhibit with Siberian and Malayan tigers and is open year round.  Admission at this famous NY zoo is $12 and up.

Prospect Park Zoo in Brooklyn

Located in Brooklyn's Prospect Park on Flatbush Avenue, this 12 acre lot became a city zoo in 1935.  This New York zoo offers educational programs for youngsters and even summer camps!  Visit Discovery Trail complete with hawks, red pandas, and kangaroos!  Or check out the Sea Lion Court with the most talkative California Sea Lions around!  Want to watch silly Hamadryas baboons groom themselves, play-fight, and care for their young?  Don't miss the animal lifestyles show and keep an eye out for Pallas cats and white-faced scops owls.  Another exciting exhibit is animal encounters!  Get up close and personal with chinchillas, slithering snakes and clucking chickens!  Adult admission is $8, children (ages 3 to 12) are $5, and seniors (65 and older) are $6 each.  Children under three are permitted free admission.

Located on Broadway on the North Shore of Staten Island, the Staten Island New York Zoo originally opened in 1936 as an educational zoo.  Somewhat of a smaller zoo, the Staten Island Zoo NY is notorious for their extensive reptile collection and massive rattlesnake agglomeration.  Also, a native of the Staten Island Zoo is Chuck, the official groundhog for groundhog day.  Also check out the porcupine puffer fish or the yellow spotted Amazon turtle!  The Staten Island NYC zoo offers lunch and snacks in the Zoo Café, or bring your own lunch!  The Staten Island Zoo allows you to bring your own lunch in coolers and store them in the front entrance office.  Also enjoy the free NY zoo parking!  Admission for adults is $8, children (ages 3 to 14) are $5, and seniors over 65 cost $6 each.  Children under three are free at this New York zoo.
