Fun Plot in Chicago the Musical

Who doesn't come to New York City and want to see a fun and famous Broadway play while they are visiting?  With so many different plays all over NYC, it can sometimes be hard to decide which one to choose because you'll be forgoing a different play.  When you do decide to purchase tickets, you should consider seeing Chicago the Musical.  While some people may shy away from this play because they have already seen the movie, this fact alone shouldn't deter people.  The plot of the musical is much more playful and fun than the movie, so you won't feel like you're watching the same production again.

A Fun Broadway Show - Chicago

Chicago the Musical is really fun and entertaining.  The music itself is classic and quirky; with fun lyrics and catchy beats, you'll be singing these songs for days to come.  Also, the performances are incredible. All the actors have great voices and really bring the music to life.  The acting itself is fun too.  It's pretty quirky humor, so it may not appeal to everyone.  If you've seen the movie, the play is a little more light-hearted and funny.

Most people who go to see the musical probably already know the play's plot.  However, if you have never heard of Chicago the Musical before, you may be a little confused at times, but it won't really detract from the play.  The costumes and the theater need a bit of revamping.   You might expect the costumes to be a bit more glitzy and exciting at points.

Features: Chicago the Musical is a satirical dramatic comedy that combines adultery, violence, and corruption with powerful song and dance performances and one-liners that will have the audience roaring with laughter. Roxie Hart kisses, murders, and rises to fame with help from a lawyer and jailbird she meets along the way. Murdering her lover may have been wrong, but she fights to the death to advance her career as a chorus girl in the Roaring '20s.

Why We Go: Not only do the characters and storyline grab audience members' attention from the start, but the music is another start of the Chicago Broadway Musical.

  • Tony Award Recognition: Chicago Broadway has received renowned recognition for the amazing performances, technical talent and excellence in entertainment.  The musical Chicago has received six Tony Awards, including categories such as Best Revival of a Musical, Best Choreography, Best Direction of a Musical and more.
  • Talented Team:  Chicago the Musical has inspired a hit movie and various performances throughout the world.  With music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, this dream team has created a visionary monster of a musical.
  • Jazz Music: The Roaring '20s were known for upbeat jazz music and bold fashions. The Chicago Broadway musical expresses all that was great about the 1920s through amazing costumes and incredibly catchy, jazz-themed songs.

Inside Knowledge: The Ambassador Theatre has been declared an NYC landmark theater. As it first opened in 1921, it is an appropriate location for Chicago the Musical to be playing.

Do's and Don'ts:

  • Do See the Matinee: Chicago Broadway offers 2:30pm matinee performances on Saturdays and Sundays, which give guests a great Broadway experience with cheaper ticket prices than the night shows.
  • Do Check the Current Cast: Many famous stars have come and gone through the cast of Chicago Broadway, such as Melanie Griffith as Roxie Hart and Usher as Billy Flynn, her sharp lawyer.  Though the Chicago Broadway musical is a show-stopper regardless, you may get to catch one of your favorite stars on the big stage.
  • Don't Bring Small Children: Although entertaining for any audience, some of the themes throughout the musical Chicago include adultery, murder, and violence, which may not suit the interests of young kids.
  • Don't Arrive Late: Late entry is at the discretion of ushers at the Ambassador Theater, so make sure you're early or on-time to ensure you get in to see Chicago the Musical.
