Do's and Don'ts:
- Do Bring Your Camera: There are plenty of photo opportunities at Ripley's Museum NY, especially in the Ripley "Torture Chamber," which features a huge selection of medieval torture devices.
- Do See the Show Before You Go: For a better idea of what the famous Ripleys Believe It Or Not NYC "Odditorium" is, check out the popular cable show before you go.
- Don't Get Sucked into the Black Hole: The freakiest part of Ripleys Museum NYC might be at the end, where visitors must scale the famous "Black Hole." While it won't actually suck you in, it will certainly make you feel like it.
- Don't Bring the Littlest Ones: Ripleys Believe It or Not is OK for most kids, but some of the exhibits might be too scary for the youngest ones.

Ripley's - Great for Kids in NYC
If you're traveling with kids, then Ripley's is a great place to let them unwind for a little while, and there's a good chance adults will be shocked/amazed by some of the things they'll see in there as well. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a big fan of the TV show on TBS growing up, and right away I recognized some artifacts/pieces/whatever you want to call them from the old show.
Ripley's is essentially impossible to miss; it's located next to Madame Tussauds in Times Square and the entrance is almost always flocked by young onlookers hoping to catch a glimpse of the Lizardman or the Bearded Lady, both of whom greet you at the entrance, albeit as waxed statues.
Ahhh, the Lizardman. This guy I remember specifically from the show and, for a brief moment, it appeared I was going to get to meet this green lad! But alas, he was a mere statue, though that didn't stop me from snapping a few (several) photos. And the Bearded Lady and her, um, husband (?) were also available for picture posing out front, though I have to say I was anticipating a much-fuller beard. (Perhaps she's taken up a little manscaping?)
Anyways, it's no doubt that this is a great spot for the kids to come hang, and dds are you'll be amused by the semi-freakshow inside. It's definitely a bit of a throwback to the old kitschy ways of Times Square, but, overall, this isn't the worst place to spend an hour or so in Times Square. Worthwhile if you're traveling with kids 13 and under.

Really Interesting
The interactive exhibits - like the Laser Race and Blackhole were winners with the kids. It took us a couple hours from start to finish. Imagine it could take less but we spent the time to read the info on most of the artifacts. Ripley's reminded us of how amazing and awe-inspiring the world really is. We recommend it because it manages to be both fun and educational. Needless to say, it was the kids favorite museum in New York.
