NYC Airport Transportation

Small ISP Airport

There are multiple airports in the New York area, including the smaller MacArthur (ISP) Airport on Long Island.

There are many convenient New York City Airports for travelers to choose from, making it easier for you to reach your intended destination.  The NYC airport system is the busiest in the United States and second busiest in the world.  The John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is the largest and busiest airport in all of NY with eight different terminals and over 150 gates.  Located in Southern Queens on Long Island, the JFK Airport is 12 miles away from Lower Manhattan.  Placed in the Northern part of Queens on Long Island, is the LaGuardia Airport (LGA) that rests on the waterfront of Flushing Bay and Bowery Bay.  The LaGuardia Airport has increasingly gained popularity due to its close proximity of just eight miles away from Manhattan.  The Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is located in both city limits of Elizabeth, NJ and Newark, NJ and is just 15 miles from Midtown Manhattan.  The Newark Airport was the first major airport built in the NY area opening in 1928, and is currently the tenth busiest airport in the United States.  The MacArthur Airport (ISLIP) is the smallest airport of the four and is located on Long Island in Ronkonkoma.  A far 60 mile trip to Manhattan, two million passengers a year use this airport to escape the congested airports such as JFK, Newark Liberty, and LaGuardia.

NYC Airport Limousines

When looking to travel to and from NY airports more privately and luxuriously, considering NYC car service may be a resourceful option.  Many city-goers travel by NYC limo for both business and leisure rather than renting a car or hailing a taxi.  Some of our favorite New York limo service providers include: New York City Limousine, Limos, & Car Rentals, Manhattan LX Limo, and Limousine Tours in New York City.

Public Transportation NYC Airports

JFK Subway

Public Transportation is always an alternative way of getting around NYC. The subway has a station right at the JFK Airport.

Public transportation is a favorite way of travel for most New Yorkers and NYC tourists.  When traveling to and from NY airports, AirTrain, subway, and bus are all systems that can transport you efficiently.

  • JFK Airport transportation is easiest when using AirTrain JFK and NYC Subway.  You must locate the Howard Beach AirTrain Station by using subway train “A” then connect to AirTrain JFK.  Most subway lines connect to train “A” but be sure you take the “A” train marked “Far Rockaway” or “Rockaway Park” and not “Lefferts Boulevard.”  The train takes approximately twelve minutes to get to the JFK Airport from the Howard Beach station.  AirTrain fare is $5 in addition to subway fees.  You are welcome to pay your AirTrain fare with a pay-per-ride MetroCard.
  • LaGuardia Airport Transportation is different because there is no AirTrain or NY subway that connects directly, the most efficient way of public transportation is by bus.  From Manhattan or Astoria, take the M60 bus which runs between 106 Street and Broadway in Manhattan and the LaGuardia Airport from 5am to 1am, seven days a week.  The M60 can be reached by all North-South subway lines or by “N” and “Q” trains at the Astoria Blvd station.  Fares are paid by MetroCard.
  • Newark Airport Transportation is easy to use once you have located Newark Penn Station.  AirTrain EWR connects from Newark Penn station and takes you directly to the Newark Liberty airport, AirTrain EWR fare is $5.50.  To find a subway train that leads you to Penn station, check out the NYC Subway Map.
