Features: Morgan Library Museum contains the extensive artwork, music, and literary collection from J.P. Morgan. This museum library displays rare first prints of literature, artwork, music manuscripts, and more ranging from medieval times to more contemporary work. Morgan Library NYC also features limited exhibitions of unique touring artwork.

Why We Go: Morgan Library Museum is a small cultural gem tucked away in Midtown Manhattan and offers a wide variety of great exhibits and artwork.

  • Book History: One of the primary focuses of the Morgan Library NYC is on the history of books and the written word. This means there are plenty of original prints, old books and paintings to be found at this small New York museum.
  • Range: The variety of periods in time that the work in this museum comes from is quite large. The Morgan Library Museum contains work that ranges from Egyptian times to the 20th century.
  • Limited Exhibitions: The Morgan Library Museum also hosts limited time exhibitions, which includes rare manuscripts such as the Charles Dicken's Christmas Carol prints.

Inside Knowledge: The J.P. Morgan collection of books and artwork was made available to the public in 1924 thanks to the aid of his son J.P. Morgan Jr.

Do's and Don'ts:

  • Do Visit on Friday Nights: Friday nights at the Morgan Library Museum are free from 7pm until 9pm. If you would like to check out some of their seasonal exhibits, then come on a Friday night to save some money.
  • Do Come During the Holidays: Some of the Christmas exhibits are something you won't want to miss. The original draft of the Charles Dicken's Christmas Carol is just one of the cool things you will find here during the winter months at the Morgan Library Museum.
  • Don't Take Pictures: Photography is strictly forbidden in the Morgan Library Museum. If you are caught taking a picture, you will be harassed to delete it from your digital camera or phone, so make sure you keep your camera phone in your pocket while in here.
  • Don't Expect a Crowd: Despite some of the cool artifacts that you can find here, the Morgan Library Museum is one of less crowded attractions in New York City. Enjoy the lack of crowds, even on the weekends.
