History of the NY Rangers

The New York Islanders always draw a crowd

The New York Islanders always draw a crowd

One of the "Original Six" National Hockey League teams, in 1928 the NY Rangers became the first American team to win the Stanley Cup. After Championships in 1933 and 1940, this storied NY hockey team went without a title for more than 50 years.

In the meantime, the Rangers missed the playoffs frequently, and saw the arrival of two nearby teams who would soon become bitter rivals - the NY Islanders and the NJ Devils - in the 1970's.

Led by Hall of Famer Mark Messier and leading-scorer Adam Graves, the NY Rangers finally broke through in 1994, hoisting the Stanley Cup proudly in Madison Square Garden for the first time in 54 years. It was the first MSG championship celebration since the 1973 Kicks won the NBA title in Madison Square Garden.

While the Rangers haven't won the Stanley Cup since, they have put strong seasons together, and have signed some of the best players of all time - including The Great One himself, Wayne Gretzy. In recent years, the NY Rangers have become a frequent NHL playoff team, and the star-studded roster and passionate fan base makes NY Rangers tickets some of the hottest in NYC.
