About the New York Mets

New York Mets History

The New York Mets first came into existence once the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants were moved to California as the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants respectively. When this was done, New York City no longer had a team in the National League of the MLB.

In order to give NYC a National League team, the New York Mets were founded in 1962. Shortly after becoming a team, they took down a World Series win in 1969. They won another World Series in 1986, and have been in the World Series more times than any other expansion team in the MLB.

The New York Mets also held the attendance record for New York for nearly three decades until the New York Yankees finally took it back going into the year 2000.

Citi Field

The new Citi Field was officially opened in 2009

The new Citi Field and the new home for the New York Mets was announced in 2006, and it was officially opened in 2009. The New York Mets made their debut on Citi Field in the spring of 2009 against the San Diego Padres.

Citi Field features 42,000 seats for New York Mets games. The NY Mets stadium is also a dedication to previous National League New York figures in baseball history, and it includes displays and museums dedicated to now-retired teams such as the Brooklyn Dodgers. This includes a very nice dedication to Jackie Robinson.

When you are at Citi Field, don't forget to check out the museum display of the original New York Mets mascot. There is plenty of old NY Mets memorabilia and history at Citi Field along with Brooklyn Dodgers dedications.

For families, there is an entertainment center called the 2k Sports Fanfest arena. It features video games, a miniature wiffleball field for kids, a batting cage, and a dunk tank among other cool games and attractions.

Places to eat in Citi Field

Citi Field features food places all around the stadium, on different levels near seating, and behind center field at the Fanfest arena. Food options include standard burgers and fries at the Shake Shack, mexican food, Asian food, as well as food options from local eateries in the Flushing Meadows neighborhood of Queens.

For attendees that are looking for a nicer sit-down restaurant, there are two club options available at Citi Field. The first one is the Acela Club, which features a menu from the Myriad Restaurant Group that is famous for Nobu but is only available for high-end ticket holders that call in for reservations.

The second restaurant option is under the Fanfest area behind center field. This restaurant is the McFadden's Restaurant and Saloon, and is available to all ticket-holders for NY Mets games.
