The Pipes of Christmas Concert has become a holiday favorite and will be celebrating its 15th season with performances in New York and New Jersey this December, produced by the Clan Currie Society. Since its debut 15 years ago, the concert has hit standing room only and become a household annual tradition. Concert goers can expect to hear a traditional and spiritual take on holiday music with classics including, O Come, O Come Emmanuel, Joy To The World, and Amazing Grace. All tunes will be performed live on pipes and drums, harp and fiddle, and organ and brass. Don't miss the world premiere of “Lullaby for a prince,” specially commissioned for the birth of HRH Prince George of Cambridge, written by Scottish composer Steve Gibbs.
The concert not only features musical masterpieces but also includes readings taken from the Celtic literature of Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. Keep your eye out for the featured performers including James Robinson from the film “Braveheart,” New England fiddle champion Paul Woodiel, Gaelic Mod champion harpist Jennifer Port, pipe major Kevin Ray, Bland-ford Memorial Pipe Band, and many more talented performers throughout the night.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit and support an extensive music scholarship program at Gaelic College of Nova Scotia, Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas, and gifts to the National Piping Center and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The Clan Currie Society also sponsors other programs throughout the year including the US National Scottish Harp Championship, the Children's Literature Prize at the Royal National Mod and academic prize at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Scotland’s Gaelic College.
The Pipes of Christmas is critically acclaimed; Paul Somers wrote in his review of the show that “The whole evening was constructed to introduce gem after gem and still have a finale which raised the roof. In short, it was like a well constructed fireworks show on the Glorious Fourth. The Westfield Leader described the concert as “a unique sound of power and glory nowhere else to be found.” This is sure to be a fantastic event, one to become a family tradition for many years to come!
