Summary
Features: Locals and tourists alike were saddened to hear that after 37 years, the Rum House in Times Square's Edison Hotel would be closing. But shortly after that announcement, the owners behind Ward III purchased the Rum House and refurbished it into a classic and classy NYC cocktail lounge. With its old-school NY feeling and new interior, the Rum House is perfect for a New York bar experience.
Why We Go: With its leather upholstery, piano players, and high-quality drinks, the Rum House in Times Square is more than just a hotel bar, it's a classic cocktail lounge.
- Location: Located at the bottom of the Edison Hotel in New York City's Times Square, The Rum House NYC is in the middle of the sights and sounds of Manhattan. In NYC's historic Theater District, The Rum House is the perfect place to get a cocktail before or after a Broadway show.
- Classic Atmosphere: With its leather booths, nautical decor and throwback piano, The Rum House is a vintage New York City establishment.
- Cocktails: The Rum House is one of the best places to get a classic cocktail in Midtown. But the Rum House NY Bar also has some new and intriguing cocktails if you are looking to order off of the beaten path. Try the Scotch-based Barrymore and notice the burnt orange zest. It's that kind of attention to detail that makes The Rum House NYC a great place to get a cocktail.
Inside Knowledge: Not only does the Rum House accept credit cards, unlike a lot of New York City Bars, there isn't a credit card minimum. If you run up your tab, there are plenty nearby NYC hotels to crash in after a long night out.
Do's and Don'ts:
- Do Go Before A Show: Located conveniently in Manhattan's Theater District, the Rum House NYC is a perfect place to go before catching a production on Broadway. A classic place for a classic NY experience.
- Do Order an Old-Fashioned: This iconic cocktail is a specialty of the Rum House, utilizing an historic recipe. Ordering an Old-Fashioned in Times Square at the Edison Hotel is one of the quintessential New York Experiences.
- Don't Bring Your Dancing Shoes: While this New York City establishment is a good time, its not a dance club. The Rum House NY Bar has a generally mellow feel, and the most current music is most often Frank Sinatra singing "New York, New York."
- Don't Be Afraid to Request a Song: Nearly every night, the Rum House has someone singing and tickling the ivories, whether its local favorite Karen Brown or Johnny Pork Pie, the “burlesque mayor of New York.”
