Summer is one of the most popular times to visit the Big Apple. There are so many popular things to do in NYC, from sightseeing to rooftop bar drinking! Don't miss the chances to shop for all the latest fashions, try out the new restaurants opening up every month or see any of the free movies in one of the New York City parks!

Throughout the summer, various parks around the city will be setting up a big screen and showing some of our favorite movies, from the classics to last year's biggest hits!

When you're in New York City this summer, check out one of these parks and the movies that will be playing in the city all summer long!

Bryant Park Summer 2014 Film Festival
Byant Park is one of the most popular landmarks in New York City, and every year during their film festival, they draw even more people than ever! This is always a family friendly event, and this year, the HBO Byrant Park Summer Film Festival is back with another great lineup! Catch a film every Monday, starting at 5pm on the Lawn (no chairs, tables, plastics, dogs or knuckleheads allowed). 

  • August 4 - The Karate Kid
  • August 11 - Lover Come Back
  • August 18 - The Shining

Summer on the Hudson: Movies Under the Stars
This is a film festival this summer in New York City that involves a few movies most suitable for the older crowds, but there are certainly a few movies that are completely family friendly! All movies can be seen at Pier I, Riverside Park South,  for six consecutive Wednesdays this summer! Movies start at 8:30pm, so bring a blanket, a few friends and expect a great time! Check the schedule for films (“The Outsiders on 8/13) and kids are welcome.

    RiverFlicks 2014
    From mid-July to mid-August, there's a movie festival at Pier 63. Hudson River Parks present two separate nights of movies each week - one night for the adults, one night for the kids. All of the movies are free, and all of them are ones that were on the big screen in theaters just last year! 

    Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum
    This famous NYC museum also hosts a a free summer movie series all summer long with August movies starting on 8/7 with Spaceballs, Captain Phillips on 8/14 and Top Gun on 8/20! Doors open at 7:30pm, the films begin at sunset and there's no admission after 8:30pm.

    Syfy Movies With A View in Brooklyn Bridge Park
    Every Thursday from mid-July through August. Typically features a DJ and short film in advance of the feature film. This year's line up features Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai on 8/14 and The Birds on 8/21. Visit www.brooklynbridgepark.org/events/ for more details.

    SummerScreen - 2014
    Every Wednesday from July 9 to August 13 at McCarren Park Ballfields (the corner of Bedford Avenue and North 12th streets, right next to the tennis courts in Williamsburg, Brooklyn) you can come by for a good flick. The park opens at 6pm, the band starts at 6:30pm and the film starts at sundown. The season ends on 8/13 with a showing of Spice World.     Rooftop Films
    Through August 31st,  catch some underground films on one of the roogtops in New York City. All over Brooklyn and Manhattan you can see feature films and short films in just about any genre. Check their website for the full lineup!
