Parks in New York City
New York City is home to some of the best parks in the United States. Aside from Central Park, which is among our top ten must-see attractions in NYC, there are also Prospect Park, Bryant Park, Washington Square Park, and Madison Square Park. Many of the most popular parks in NYC have a history as rich as the city itself. Washington Square Park, for example, was once a cemetary, execution site, and parade ground before becoming a park in 1828.

Central Park - The Most Visited Park in the U.S.
Central Park is the most visited park in New York (and in the United States!)
Given that New York City is the most populous city in the United States, it's no surprise that Central Park is the most visited park in the country. Spanning 843 acres, this iconic NY park - a National Historic Landmark since 1963 - first opened in 1857 on 770 acres of city-owned land. The park was expanded to its current size between 1858 and 1873. Among those activities offered at Central Park are swimming, skating, horseback riding, and boating.
Central Park is not merely a popular destination for NYC locals, it's a popular destination for tourists, as well. If you like movies, you might enjoy taking the Central Park Movie Sites Tour, which provides tourists with the opportunity to view the places in Central Park where their favorite movies were filmed (remember that spooky pigeon lady from Home Alone 2?). You might also capture the moment with a Central Park Photo Safari Tour. Get your picture taken by a professional photographer in one of the most beautiful places in the world!
