Restaurant Hotel

4.5

The New York Plaza Hotel is a luxury hotel that was built in 1901.  The Plaza features 282 rooms and boasts a premiere location on Central Park South and Fifth Avenue.  The Plaza Hotel is decorated in the ornate, rococo style of King Louis XV, which was considered the epitome of style at the turn of the century, and features 24-karat hotel bathroom fixtures.  The Plaza Hotel brings NYC transporation to a new level by chauffering guests around in a Phantom Rolls Royce, and when you book at a suite at the Plaza NY, you get a butler at your service. The Plaza Hotel New York is rich in style and even richer with history.

The first people on the guest list at the New York Plaza were the Vanderbilts, well known in the early 20th-Century as one of Manhattan's wealthiest families.  Today, the Plaza has retained and restored its rococo decor, and still caters to those for a taste of the finer things in life.  The Plaza Hotel's Champagne Bar, which once hosted Truman Capote's "Party of the Century," is still serving champagne and caviar to the elite and well dressed and the Oak Room.

Features: Like The Plaza Hotel, the Oak Room New York is a NYC historical landmark that caters to the "who's who" of New York City. Eric Hara is Executive Chef of the Plaza Oak Room, where he reinvents classic American cuisine for this legendary restaurant. Brunch, lunch and dinner are all served at the highly regarded Oak Room NYC.

Why We Dine: Bask in the rich history of NYC when you dine at the Plaza Oak Room.

  • Brunch:  We can't resist the famous white chocolate strawberry creme brulee at the Oak Room New York, or their notorious Eggs Benedict served with a classic view of Central Park.
  • F. Scott Fitzgerald: The famous author of The Great Gatsby was a frequent visitor of the Plaza Oak Room. Perhaps he was inspired by the emerald views of NYC Central Park or the oak carvings on the walls of the Oak Room at the Plaza.

Inside Knowledge: The Oak Room New York was originally opened in 1907 as an exclusive men's bar. The Oak Room NYC closed during Prohibition, and re-opened in 1934 as a full service restaurant.

We Recommend:

  • Crab Cakes: For a spectacular start to a dining experience you won't forget, indulge in the succulent potato crusted crab cakes at the Oak Room New York.
  • The Sidecar: Relive a drink of yesteryear, or experience it for the first time at The Oak Room New York. The Classic Sidecar at the Oak Room is made with Hennesy VS Cognac, Combier, orange & citrus.
