What We Do
The Museum exhibitions partner with non-profits and managers of public spaces. We tell stories about candymakers, butchers, picklers, bakers, cooks, farmers, markets, store owners, restaurants, pushcarts and gardeners. Each year the Museum hosts the City's favorite street festival, the New York City International Pickle Day, where visitors can taste and learn about this universal food preservation technique and the special role it has played and still plays in New York. (THIS YEAR: September 16, 2007, Orchard Street between Broome and Grand in Manhattan). You will see our other exhibitions and programs in ferry terminals, cultural and community centers, schools, galleries, and in other museums. In upcoming years look for us in festivals around the City and further abroad, look for films, DVDs, books and podcasts.

Who We Are
The NY Food Museum is a 7-year old non-profit organization, a museum without walls, dedicated to encouraging people to think about the food they eat. Past programs include "100 Years of Joyva," a celebration of a Brooklyn-based family-owned candy and halvah manufacturer, "How NYC Ate 100 Years Ago," "The History of the School Lunch Program" held at the St. George Ferry Terminal and "Cooking for the Lower East Side" in partnership with the Henry Street Settlement. Many of these exhibits can be seen on our website, www.nyfoodmuseum.org. Reconnect with the people who plant, grow, harvest, raise, catch and market our foods, as well as those who cook, serve and clean up after our meals. See the hidden dynamics that affect our food supply from seed to compost, and learn how we can control them and protect and enjoy our food supply. Programs are free of charge, and pay tribute to the people who make New York's food culture fascinating and influential. We highlight the various contributions of the many different cultures and traditions that have made New York one of the great culinary crossroads of the world.

About Us
Each year we have exhibitions in more places and for more weeks in the year. We announce these exhibitions in advance on our website, and have all current exhibitions with directions and open times as needed.
